Exploring Hindu worldviews:
Knowledge rich substantive content about Hindu weddings, festivals such as Holi, Raksha Bandhan and Ganesha Charturthi, Ganesha Murtis, inspirational figures and the understanding and impact of the concept of ahimsa.
For our youngest pupils we explore Holi and Raksha Bandhan actively through photographs, stories and films of festivals. Marriage is a significant rite of passage for Hindus and the photos from ‘Auntie Anita’s’ wedding make an excellent photo album, available to members as a digital flipbook, to explore to understand the symbols, actions and promises at a Hindu wedding and how they show what people want for a marriage.
The significance of Ganesha to Hindu devotees is explored through stories, family and a festival with a beautiful murti of Ganesha to help pupils to understand his divine qualities. Figures inspiring to some Hindus, Jalaram Bapa and his wife Virbai, are shared. Study of virtues, a mandir that honours this guru and how a devotee put virtues into action are resourced for pupils and teachers. Finally the key concept of ahimsa is unpacked through philosophy, thoughts of young Hindus, a story, text and two charity case studies.
As ever we provide lots of background knowledge for teachers and subject leaders in our background knowledge sections, explanation of concepts and use of data.
Classroom ready resources are essential for teachers which is why each unit has PowerPoint available for NATRE members to use when teaching with your class – do go to the website and look for these. On our website we have also listed key links to other digital resources.
This 9 volume series will offer 7 books looking at specific religious and non-religious worldviews and 2 books with a more general focus on big ideas and celebrations.
