Units include:Unit 1 for 11-14s equips pupils to read and understand the Qur’an, by showing the key features of Quranic texts and showing how Islamic tradition connects different chapters with the context of their revelation – whether during Prophet Muhammad’s time in Makkah or Madinah. Pupils explore important Quranic themes – the nature of God, Creation, the hereafter, and how to live. The voices of contemporary British Muslims help pupils to understand the role and impact of the Qur’an in Muslim living and being. Unit 2 for 12-14s examines an aspect of diversity in Islam, namely, the similarities and differences between Sunni, Shi’a and Sufi Muslims. Infographics present data and demographics to give pupils information about Sunni and Shi’a Muslims around the world, and about how many believe and practice the core tenets of Islam. Pupils find out about the origins of the divide in the early Muslim community and the ideas held in common and those that are distinctive to both traditions. Pupils encounter Sufism via poetry and a case study of a British Sufi. |
