Units include:Unit 1, for 5-7s, explores what it means for Muslims to be part of communities in Britain. Pupils encounter several Muslim families via photographs and interviews. They explore a mosque using photographs and interviews, and find out ways in which Muslims use mosques. They explore case studies about how Muslim communities engage with their local areas. Interviews allow pupils to consider the benefits and challenges of being part of a community, for Muslims and themselves. Unit 2, for 7-9s, explores what Muslims believe about God. This includes belief in the oneness of God (tawhid), and how it is communicated in the Qur’an and in the teachings and words of the Prophet Muhammad. Pupils use texts and interviews to find out about the impact of these beliefs in Muslim lives. They explore ways in which Muslims use the 99 Beautiful Names of God as a way to connect with God and understand the nature of God better. Pupils explore how calligraphy and geometric art are used to communicate something of the perfection of God in Muslim traditions. Unit 3, for 9-11s, examines how Muslims decide what is right and wrong. It explores texts from the Qur’an and the Hadith. Interviews show how these texts and beliefs influence ethical decision making and the development of good character. Case studies on coffee and zakat (charity) help to illuminate ways in which Muslims make moral decisions in the past and today.
